There’s no luxury quite like having your own home bar. And they’re actually surprisingly achievable, especially with our range of affordable cabinets, seating and wood products.

If you put a little thought into your set-up, you could design a bar so brilliant that you never need to leave the house again. Unless you need to go to the bottle shop!

How to decorate a home bar area

Having a bar at home is something that’s easy to incorporate into your current house or unit. There’s no rules around how big it needs to be or even where you put it. But we’ve got some tips to make the whole process easier and cheaper for you.

Embrace a style or theme

When you’re trying to decide on a look, why not embrace a theme. Some fun bar for home ideas could be sports bar style. If you’ve got the space you could put in a pool table, or at the very least a dart board, to give your bar a purpose or activity. If you’re not keen on going down the man cave route, why not go for a tiki bar?

Prime Liquidations has a range of bamboo panels that you could use to section off your space. For decoration, we have some amusing signs that you can use to spell out your personality. And your bar admittance rules!

Modernising an old bar

You could also consider modernising an old bar with recycled furniture to give your bar that old world theme. Dark wood, candles, books and brass ornaments will create the feeling of an old saloon for a bar with a real atmosphere.

Keep it simple

If grand themes and the antique-look isn’t your style, keep things simple. Rather than committing to a separate bar area, transform a home kitchen into a bar, with a drinks cabinet or bar cart.

Focus instead on coordinating your glassware and making sure you have all the bar accessories, like cocktail shakers and ice buckets for example, to create the drinks that you want.

Where should a bar be placed?

home bar with stoolThis leads to the next consideration; where should a bar be placed? Again, this is totally up to you. Add a bar onto your kitchen, set up a bar nook under your stairs or perhaps another niche or corner of your living room. You can also use a screen or room divider to section off the space.

Or channel the speakeasies of the roaring twenties by creating a bar behind a bookshelf or perhaps in your garage. One of our Bali huts could also make the perfect beach bar, poolside if you want and indoor and outdoor bar, although you might have to close in winter.

Work with the space you’re in

Work with the space you’re in. You would be surprised by how many things that you already have could be used to set up a bar at home. You could transform a desk, cabinet or chest of drawers into a bar cabinet for your home very easily, with just a few accessories.

Load up a bookshelf

A bookshelf is another great way to create your own home bar in an affordable way. Load up its shelves with glassware and invest in a couple of cheap trays to keep your ingredients on and add a touch of class. You’ve got a home bar cabinet before you know it.

Hang a mirror

Hanging a mirror is always a good way to increase your sense of space, and a bar area is no exception. Putting a mirror behind your cabinetry is a great way to make your bar seem bigger. It will also make all your bar accessories, like wine glasses and drinks, look twice as plentiful.

While we’re on the subject of lights, LED lights are a fantastic way to give your bar or liquor cabinet a bit of an extra sparkle. They can be easily added to most bar cabinets or shelving.

Seats for sipping

seats for sippingWhat’s a bar without a seat to pull up? What seats you go for will depend on the look and size of your bar, and where in your home you’ve decided to have it. But you can’t go wrong with a sturdy set of stools for your bar counter.

Bar stools

Prime Liquidation has a wide range of affordable bar stools in different shapes and styles that will suit any bar style. They’re multi-functional too. When you’re not using your bar, your bar stools will find a handy home in your kitchen or they can be taken outside if you have guests.

Comfortable seating

Depending on the size of your bar area, you might want to consider some additional seating. A daybed or bench is a good way to create extra seats without taking up too much space. You can also use them to clearly section off the bar area from the rest of your home.

Is a home bar worth having?

A home bar is definitely worth having. Even if you end up using it more for catching up with your partner at the end of the day,  or taking the weight off after work with a book, it’s still a space you’ve carved out for yourself. And in the spirit of a new year, and new year’s resolutions, isn’t that something you deserve?
